Hey everyone, thanks for visiting my page! I became involved in New Heights as an AmeriCorps VISTA in November, drawn to their mission to educate and empower promising inner-city youth to be leaders, champions, and student-athletes by developing the skills necessary for success in high school, college, and life. In just 4 short months of being here, I have seen the incredible impact that New Heights has on NYC youth. On May 14th, I will be participating in New Heights's 3rd annual Shoot-a-thon, raising money for the 8th grade girls’ team, to help ensure that they receive high-quality year-round basketball and academic programming. Here's a little bit about the organization:
• 100% high school graduation rate since 2005
• 98% college matriculation rate since 2005
• 365 New Heights’ student-athletes have been placed in college prep high schools in NYC and throughout the nation
• 271 New Heights’ graduates have matriculated to college
• $51M estimated in total scholarship and financial aid dollars have been awarded to New Heights’ student-athletes
I’ll be shooting 100 free throws and I’m asking for pledges for each made free throw. It can be anything from 10 cents to 10 dollars. So, if you make a 50 cent pledge and I make 60 free throws, you would donate $30 to the team. Y’all know I was never voted Most Athletic, so you can also help by making a one-time donation. Every dollar raised goes to benefit our youth.
Please help me raise the funds to support these talented student-athletes!
Thanks for reading,
Wendolyn
